Return

Many people who immigrated to Switzerland wish to return to their native country after some years and in particular once they have retired.

The return to one’s native country is however not always a free choice. Asylum applicants whose application is rejected have to leave Switzerland after the asylum procedure is completed. But other foreigners who are staying in Switzerland illegally may also be issued with a removal order.

Only a small number of people are subject to forced return. In order not to jeopardise the health of those affected, medical assistance can be ordered if necessary. The current mandate for the provision of medical services will expire at the end of 2024. The new mandate will be awarded through a public call for tenders that the State Secretariat for Migration will publish on the public procurement platform www.simap.ch on 31 May 2024. Bids must be submitted by 20 August 2024. More detailed information on medical services for repatriations can be found under "Documents".
