The Schengen states use information systems that are essential for their work to implement Schengen/Dublin cooperation. The current Schengen system landscape has essentially remained unchanged since Switzerland joined the Schengen area in December 2008.
Since then, the European Commission has been continuously implementing innovations in the Schengen information architecture. These ensure that existing systems are optimized and that previous gaps are closed with new systems. In addition, the needs of growing digitalization must be taken into account.
In the area of entry and border management, several information systems are in use or under development.
