Juan Angel Napout extradited to the USA

Bern, 15.12.2015 - Juan Angel Napout, president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and FIFA vice-president was extradited to the USA today. He was handed over to two US police officers in Zurich, who accompanied him on the flight to New York.

Juan Angel Napout was arrested in Zurich on 3 December 2015 on the basis of an arrest request from the USA. On 8 December, he agreed to his extradition to the USA, enabling the FOJ was to approve it immediately in a simplified procedure.

Eduardo Li withdraws appeal

Eduardo Li, former president of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FEDEFUT), was arrested in Zurich on 27 May 2015 on the basis of a US arrest request. On 29 September, the Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) ordered his extradition to the USA. On 11 December, Li withdrew the appeal that he had lodged with the Federal Criminal Court against the FOJ extradition ruling. The FOJ was thus able to arrange for the extradition to be carried out. As is customary, for reasons of security and privacy no details concerning when Li will be handed over to the USA will be disclosed.
